Hey! Look at us still hobbling along. We’ve been delayed again but here is the “Year In Review” that we promised a while ago. We’re also pleased to have some info for you about our ambitions for the coming year. AND, we announce the next two books for you to get and read. August 27th (or thereabouts) will be Nicole Lundrigan’s The Substitute and October 27th will be Patrick deWitt’s French Exit.
For those of you who can’t bear to listen to the podcast* but are just dying to know what our top three books of 2017 were. Here they are:
Tania’s Top Three:
- Every Blade of Grass by Thomas Wharton (Write Reads #54)
- River of Stars by Guy Gavriel Kay (Write Reads #52)
- The Nest by Kenneth Oppel (Write Reads #47)
Kirt’s Top Three:
- Every Blade of Grass by Thomas Wharton
- River of Stars by Guy Gavriel Kay
- The Hidden Keys by Andre Alexis (Write Reads #49)
*The sound quality is still a work in progress. We’ve been experimenting with doing video podcasts. A video of this podcast may appear on our Youtube channel. We’ll see.
Yeah! River of Stars, baby! Every Blade of Grass! I love that you both had them 1/2 🙂
Thanks for sticking with the pod. I know it can’t be easy, with the distance involved. We all appreciate the extra efforts. I haven’t even heard of The Substitute, actually. Gotta do some research on that one. I heard French Exit is excellent. Good timing, with the Sister Brothers movie about to come out.
Thank you for your unflagging support and kind words, Rick!
Whoo hoo! So exited for the new deWitt, even though I probably won’t get to it for a while.
You guys following the Man Booker at all, there are two Canadians on there. You should do one (or both!) on the podcast!
I am a huge Ondaatje fan and I’ve heard nothing but good things from people I trust about Edugyan, so I want to do both. In fact, I’m going to just go ahead and say that we’re going to do both of them. Tania will just have to be okay with it.
Maybe we could have a guest host for one of these titles? Maybe you can think of somebody? [Winky emoji or gif]
